Let's be part of the solution...adopt Best Management Practices - (BMPs) that work to protect our native environment!

• Be analytical. Take a soil test BEFORE applying fertilizer.  You can even take up old and new leaf or frond growth to be used in testing for pest and other problems. 
• Check soil pH and water quality.
• Apply the minimum amount of nutrients as needed by the plant.
• Use fertilizers containing low to no Phosphate and remove uncoated urea Nitrogen.
• Minimize Nitrogen and Phosphate use in the summer rainy season.
• Use a deflector shield and maintain a minimum border of 6 feet from bodies of water.
• Do not apply fertilizer to impervious surfaces.  Prevent from entering sewer drains.
• Scout and spot-treat your lawns and landscapes for pests and problems.

Additional recommendations:

• Minimize liquid supplements.
• Adjust soil pH to maximize nutrient availability.  Utilize Indicate 5 to acidify and buffer spray and drench water.
• Increase the use of Target Horticultural Oil to reduce pest population prior to the use of chemical pesticides, (it will help reduce the chance for pest resistance).   

It's not too late to reverse environmental damage.  Many regions of the world have witnessed reductions in harmful algae blooms when individuals along with their government began to place nutrient controls in place.
